[Blog] Town's Possible Starting XI 2010
Written by superblueflude on Wednesday, 28th Oct 2009 14:49

Let's forget the whole Keane out thing, or who should be our assisting coach. Let's look forward and specifically to after Xmas.

Well, let me know of your thoughts on this.

Wright will probably be our keeper again, and hopefully full of confidence and back to his best.

If not maybe a new goalkeeper signing, who knows? But looking up the field, how would you all feel about a different formation?

How about three at the back, with one main holding midfielder, two wingers, one central midfielder and one attacking midfielder? With two strikers?

Picture this,

Wright Rosenior McAuley D.Wright

Norris

Edwards Leadbitter Civelli

Walters

Priskin Stead

Seems solid to me? What do you think?

I'd bbe happy to change Walters as the lone striker but just dont thinki any ofthe others we have could cut it, Walters is the 'best of a bad bunch' say. ant believe im saying that have loved pablo for years in a town shirt!
if we was to purchase a big target man then i think my tactics could work! Leadbitter would thrive with both garvan and norris protecting him and the defence! Also if we could find a better left back (naturally left footed) would happily change thatcher but again think he is the best atm. D Wright is a good player but not as good as rosenior so would be a sub in my eyes!

Good thinking Callum
counago is such a favourite but he just isnt what we need at the moment, hes a bench player for me someone tocome on to hold a lead - when we get one! lol.
I would give prisking and stead a few games together starting against derby - i have seem gimpses of priskin but he hasnt had long enough yet.

Not sure why anybody would drop Walters in preference for any of the other strikers we have at the moment given he's scored more League goals so far this season than all the others put together!

Well that's why we pay a guy a million quid a year to be the manager, i will shout 'snap' when someone agrees with the previous 'best eleven'.

no...cant say i agree with your line-up, individually its a good team, perhaps even a great championship side, but 3 at the back?! we cant defend with four, so reducing it to 3 wouldnt work for. my side would be as follows (i have only used players we have now, and have put asterics by the players who id like to see replaced by a new signing):

wright

rosenior mcauley* smith* wright

edwards norris leadbitter civelli

walters counago*

altho, i believe once we find a successful striking partnership, we should stick with that, and stead, priskin, wickham and pabs are all good players in my opinion, just need to find the right combination and get some confidence in there!!

when the world is full of dreamers then failure is the only result. All wake up to a realistic world, these players are not good enough for this league, no matter what formula you try.

I think that the players we have are good enough apart from the below:
Macauley
Bruce
Delaney
Quinn
Balkestein
Peters
Martin
Smith - although he is a great prospect, next season - whatever league we are in will be our main centre back!

Mostly defenders, need at least 2, the ones we have are good squad players, but not to cut it week in week out - prob why we are bottom!
All our strikers can score goals but a lack of consistency in selection has meant a lack of goals!

My line up would be

wright
rosenier bruce new centre back d wright

edwards norris ledbitter civelli

stead coungo

i think jon stead is the man to score the goals for us this year if played more often

I would go for

wright
rosenior macauley smith wright
edwards norris leadbitter walters
counago priskin

I know left not walters best position but i do not rate martin and did not see much of civelli. i do not rate stead either - too many bad matches. The bench should include bruce peters garvan trotter and wickham

We need to sign a new striker.

With Cevelli and Norris fully fit, they would walk into the team, but that would still ask the question of the front two? Mounds of acceptable defensive/midfield permitations, BUT not two up front that would automatically earn a place?
Walters would have to fight for a place with Edwards at right side midfield, Pablo would have to learn how to score most weeks as would Stead,...a proven goalscorer a priority Wickham will do that in the future.

I think...

wright
rosenior mcauley bruce/loan signing wright
edwards norris leadbitter civelli
walters priskin/new signing

walters may be a better winger than striker, but I think if he is played with a striker who knows how to put the ball in the net, he would be good, and I believe Priskin could be good if given games and service.

Marshall/Mathie, Johnson/Stewart, Bent/Kuqi - Why not Stead/Priskin. . . . . . . Sorry just woke up.

I would go with
Wright
Rosenior Macauley Bruce Smith Balkestein D.Wright
Norris Trotter Leadbitter Garvan
Edwards Peters Civelli
Walters Counago Wickham Priskin Stead

And hope that no one noticed we had one or two players on the pitch more than we should :p

Martin and Priskin have not had a proper chance and they are two of the biggest signings of recent seasons. Martin has shown flashes of being really good but Priskin only played during games where we didnt create many proper chances. It's not like he's fluffed a load. He needs 10 games in the team and I'm sure he will score, my choice of support for him would be Counago with Stead and Wickham on the bench.
Also, I know its been churned over on here for weeks but when exactly does Roy Keane have to go for the good of the club. Im not saying he has to go now but when. I don't want to have to wait to judge him on a season and say well that didnt work we got relegated. If we are still bottom at Christmas, will it be then? Or if we don't win in the next 6? Surely no manager can still be considered fit for a job after not winning in 20 games.... surely....

Counago is our best player - has to play!

Wright (or Begovic if he is still here)
Rosenior, MacAuley, Bruce, Wright
Walters, Leadbitter, Norris, Civelli
Priskin, Counago

Of course much can happen between now and then but I like the look of that team if everyone is fit and playing well.
